Effects of Tire Types on Predicted Pavement Service Life
In this paper, comparisons are presented of the predicted pavement response from three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) and layered elastic programs. The objective was to study effect of different tire types on pavement lives. Authors used available contact pressure measurements on four tires to predict pavement response using a 3D finite element program. The results show that the predicted pavement fatigue life based on horizontal strains at the bottom of asphalt layer is different by tire types and analysis methods while the predicted rutting life based on vertical strains at the top of subgrade layer shows no significant difference.
