Modelling UK regional airport traffic: the relevance of the civil aviation authority's traffic distribution model to UK regional airports’ forecasting
The Civil Aviation Authority's (CAA) modelling of UK airport traffic intentionally concentrates on the South East capacity issues. Its treatment of regional airports therefore is less rigorous, yet attempts have been made by others to use the regional forecasts as a basis for planning regional airports. A review of the CAA's modelling shows that there are characteristics, in the form and calibration of the models and also in the indiscriminate treatment geographically of trip generation, which make it less suitable for modelling regional airport choice in its present form.
