Non-Standard Testing of Mechanical Characteristics of Historic Mortars
This article presents recent research into non-standard techniques that have been developed or modified by the author for testing the mechanical characteristics of mortars on small specimens extracted in situ from existing structures. Small size effects and correction of experimental data according to the dimensions of the test specimens are discussed, namely low slenderness in the case of compression tests and cross-section height in the case of bending tests.
