Impact Noise Rating and Testing
This paper begins with a discussion of the noise control requirements in current building codes and the reason they are uniformly ineffective: namely, the lack of acoustical performance specifications, compliance to be demonstrated by measurements in the completed buildings. It then considers the relation between the code requirements and the necessary impact test procedures. Finally, the background of impact noise testing and rating is briefly reviewed and prospects for the future are considered.
