The paper presents a method for calculating the short and medium term regional economic impact of plant closures, taking into account expenditure lags. The method is a straightforward modification of the generalized Leontief inverse approach for determining income and employment multipliers. An approximation is given which maintains the relative simplicity of that calculation. The biases in the approximation are shown to be relatively small for many practical calculations and for a range of expenditure distributions. An example is computed. The results suggest that the conventional model may overestimate the short run (one year) impact of a closure by 10–30% but underestimate the medium term (five year) impact to an even greater degree.

Cet article présente une méthode pour évaluer l'impact économique régional de court et de moyen terme des fermetures industrielles en considérant les retards des dépenses. La méthode n'est qu'une simple modification de la façon inverse généralisée pour déterminer les multiplicateurs de revenu et d'emploi d'après Leontief. II s'agit d'une approximation ce qui assure la simplicité relative de ce calcul. On démontre que les erreurs systématiques dans l'approximation sont négligeables pour de nombreux calculs pratiques et pour tout un éventail de distributions des dépenses. Un exemple se voit calculer. Dieser Aufsatz beschreibt eine Methode zur Berechnung der kurzund mittelfristigen regionalwirtschaftlichen Auswirkung von Firmenschliessungen wobei Ausgabenverzögerungen in Betracht gezogen werden. Die Methode ist eine einfache Modifizierung der verallgemeinerten Leontief Inversionsmethode zur Bestimmung von Einkommens- und Beschäftigungsmultiplikatoren. Ein Näherungswert wird angegeben, der die relative Einfachheit dieser Berechnung beibehält.
