Water-energy nexus management strategy towards sustainable mobility goal in smart cities
Water distribution networks have high values of energy consumption from the source to the distribution. The use of pumps working as turbines is an innovative technology for leverage the energy excess in consumption nodes. The research proposes a new methodology, which couples the energy generation with other energy-consumption systems. The main goal is the development of energy communities, which will be self-sufficient to unify the solution with the mobility park charging systems. The optimization process is applied to an urban irrigation system in Lisbon to optimize the energy recovery from the network with PATs. This generated energy is used to cover the demand for two electric bikes’ charging in Lisbon. This research contributes to both renewable energy and green mobility, creating a more sustainable and urban smart environment. An economic, environmental and social assessment is carried out evaluating the feasibility in global environmental terms.
