Studying local air pollution with CO tracers
Where chimney stacks are of only moderate height, nearby obstructions to windflow can cause unacceptable air pollution near ground level in the immediate vicinity. Studies of this phenomenon are turning to the use of carbon monoxide tracers, which must be handled with care. How this has been done economically with model buildings in a wind tunnel at the University of Sydney, Australia, is described in this article by the Senior Lecturer in Architectural Science at the University.
