A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The construction of more than 100 polders in the delta of Bangladesh, embanking a total area of over one million ha of agricultural land has produced conditions of stable agricultural growth. The polders here originally conceived as a means of drainage and flood control rather than as a means of irrigation. In fact the polders greatly increased the area under which yield from three times of 50 percent more than rainfall areas. The acreage of the modern variety of Bororine has more than doubled.
