‘Modern Architecture’ has been burdened, at least by its more earnest disciples, with unnecessary and unhelpful moral principles, particularly honesty in the use of structures and materials. Many of its problems could have been overcome by ‘faking’, which was common in Roman and Renaissance architecture.
