Nucleate Boiling of Halocarbon Refrigerants: Heat Transfer Correlations
Two approaches are used to correlate the heat transfer coefficient under nucleate boiling conditions: the strictly empirical, based on curve fitting of experimental results, and the semi empirical, based on physical models, but fitted through experimental results. Both groups exhibit significant discrepancies among the several correlations. However, the procedure by Cooper, in which the transport properties are written in terms of reduced pressure and temperature, provides simple yet accurate correlations for the heat transfer coefficient. The database used for that purpose involved two sets of experimental results obtained elsewhere for refrigerants R-11, R-113, and R-114. Results from the proposed correlation present average deviations with respect to the experimental correlations of about 6%.
