Building With Concrete-Filled Steel Columns
Compared with all-steel structures, or with precast reinforced concrete designs, a composite column can combine the virtues of both steel and concrete with economic use of the materials. In China this novel approach takes the form of tubular-steel members which are filled with concrete to provide the columns of new factory buildings. The article explains the various shapes in use, the design of the bracket members, sub-members, connections and footings, and presents the formulae used in calculations.
