A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Population projections published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 1988 show that over the next forty years there will be a significant ageing of the population. The extent of the ageing process can be seen on the population pyramids on the next page showing Australia's projected age structure in 2011 and 2031. The numbers of old people will more than double while there are projected to be only small marginal increases in the numbers of children. The ageing process is so prominent that the term ‘population pyramid’ will probably be as an outdated piece of demographic jargon.
