A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The author, who is Head of the Building Department at the University of Ife, Nigeria, describes tests on a prototype solar water heater he has designed which can be fabricated simply. Tests showed that a tilt angle of 18° is optinuimfor the location, and that the insulated 59-litre hot water storage tank can supply adequate hot water, with maximum temperature at 1500 hours. Depending on insolation and water temperature, overall efficiency ranged from 52 to 85 percent.
