Addressing youth unemployment : Re‐examining social and locational disadvantage within Australian cities
Youth unemployment, like other unemployment, is concentrated in poor and disadvantaged areas. High youth unemployment rates combine with low retention rates at school to reinforce the poor employment prospects for young people in these areas. Increasing the general level of education may only serve to address the problems of those people with a propensity to stay at school, that is, middle class youth.
