STOCHASTIC MODELLING OF MONTHLY RAINFALL—A CASE STUDY
A long and continuous record of hydrologic data is a basic need in planning and development of water resources projects. In this paper, the Thomas-Fiering and autoregressive models are chosen to generate monthly rainfall sequences independently for the four rain gauge stations of the Kalangi basin located in Chittoor district of Andra Pradesh. An attempt is also made to verify the applicability of the lag one multisite model proposed by Young and Pisano for the generation of monthly rainfall sequences simultaneously.
The study discloses that the Thomas-Fiering model for the independent generation and Young and Pisano model for the simultaneous generation of synthetic sequences of rainfall may be used in the design of water resources system of Kalangi basin
