The Effect of Regional Investment Incentives on Company Decisions

This paper sets out a review of a number of recent studiès which have been directly or indirectly concerned with the influence of regional investment incentives on the investment behaviour of firms in the Assisted Areas of the United Kingdom. Within the context of the most recent research the authors are able to reconcile the apparent conflicting results of some earlier studies. Based upon these results the paper draws a number of conclusions on the types of investment incentive and the delivery system most likely to influence decision-makers.

Cet article examine quelques études récentes au sujet de l'impact, soit direct soit indirect, des incitations régionales financières sur la propension des entreprises d'investir dans les zones defavorisées du Royaume-Uni. Dans le cadre des recherches les plus récentes les auteurs réussissent à concilier les résultats des études antérieures qui s'y opposent. A partir de ces résultats l'article tire quelques conclusions sur les types d'incitation financière et le mode d'attribution les plus susceptibles d'influer sur la prise de décisions.

Diese Abhandlung legt einen Uberblick über eine Anzahl kürzlich erschienener Studien vor, die sich direkt oder indirekt mit dem Einfluss regionaler Anreize auf Investierungsverhalten beschäftigt, die in “Assisted Areas” des Vereinigten Königreichs beobachtet wurden. Die Autoren sind im Stande, im Rahmen aller-jüngster Forschungsarbeiten die anscheinend gegenläufigen Ergebnisse mancher früheren Untersuchungen auszu-gleichen. Auf der Grundlage dieser Ergebnisse zieht die Abhandlung eine Anzahl Schlussfolgerungen in Bezug auf die Art der Investierungsanreize und Präsentatïon, die Beschlüsse fassende Stellen am chesten beeinflussen.
