Rationalised factory modernisation
In the German Democratic Republic nearly one third of all factories were built before 1945. To extend their life-span and economise on all investment for higher industrial production, an integrated programme of building modernisation has been started. It is based on 'preferred solutions' resulting from intensive studies. The programme and some of the chosen methods are explained here by the director of the Institute for Industrial Construction in the GDR Bauakademie.
