Mechanical and thermal charactristics of self-compacting concrete produced with blast furnace slag and fly ash
One of the main by-products of the steel production is blast furnace slag (BFS). Self-compacting concrete (SCC) mixtures were produced, in which, the cement was partially replaced by BFS and fly ash (FA). Three different BFS ratios and three different FA ratios were used at 0.35 w/b ratio. SCC mixes were tested in its fresh state for flowability, passing ability and segregation resistance. In the hardened state, these mixes were examined for compression strength, splitting tensile strength, pore structure by scanning electron microscope (SEM), and heat of hydration was measured. The results concluded that, FA and BFS enhance the heat of hydration and durability properties of concrete leading to environmentally friendly concrete mixes.
