An Investigation of Household Refrigerator Cabinet Thermal Loads
The thermal load on a refrigerator cabinet during closed door conditions was investigated. The area of focus was the door and wall gasket region. Conduction heat transfer into the refrigerator cabinet was quantified using experimental techniques and numerical computer models. The specific loads for each of the various pathways, as well as the overall cabinet load were determined. Both the simulations and experiments showed that the edge losses account for approximately 30% of the overall cabinet load. In addition to this primary finding, percentages were determined for heat leakage directly through the door gaskets, along the steel casing at the wall and door flanges, and along the steel skin in the mullion section. The energy loading from antisweat electrical heaters and condenser tube loops is illustrated in this paper.
