The performance concept and jointing products - 1
The need for performance-based specifications for jointing products is widely accepted. This paper discusses the principles underlying the formulation of appropriate test methods for this purpose and the many factors affecting performance which must be considered. The products considered are principally sealants and gaskets, though many of the general principles discussed apply to other jointing products. In the second part of the paper — to be published in our next issue — proposed test methods for sealants are examined in relation to the criteria discussed here.
