Revival of dam instrumentation (TTP) of Ukai Dam, Gujarat
This paper deals with the revival of non-working instrumentation system consists of Twin Tube Piezometers (TTPs) for measurement of pore pressure that are embedded in both upstream and downstream of the dam structure and terminated in the terminal wells of the Toes at Ukai Dam, Gujarat. The Central Water & Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune, India has taken a pivotal role in revival work of these instruments at the site. The revival work includes total revamping of the TTPs and associated Valves, Tubes, Panels, Flushing Units, etc. during the year 2015–2016 and made the instrumentation system in working condition for data recording and analysis for the purpose of monitoring the health of the dam structure. All Instruments installed in the dam are being used for monitoring the in-service performance of any Dam structure. For example, monitoring the parameters such as leakages, pore-water pressure, and deformation can provide an indication of the structural performance of the dam. Based on the monitoring data, critical issues can be identified and necessary measures can be taken in time to avoid any untoward incident.
