Return migration in a Scottish context
Bell D. N. F. and Kirwan F. X. (1979) Return migration in a Scottish context, Reg. Studies 13, 101–111. A model is specified which hypothesises that return migrants may be an important component of the flow of migration from higher to lower income regions. A measure of return migration between Scotland and the rest of Britain is derived from a reconciliation of data from the Census of Population and the National Health Central Register for Scotland. A three equation model is then estimated using quarterly data over the period 1961–1973 with encouraging results. With the exception of 1974 the model is shown to fit the post sample period reasonably well.
