Upgrading old plumbing vent systems
When modernising old buildings the existing venting system may be unable to support extra loads from any facilities added. The authors here report encouraging test results of a new approach to this problem, namely a 'circulation loop' modification which expands the venting capacity. Lawrence Galowin developed and directed research into engineered plumbing systems and water conservation at the Center fo Building Technology, US National Bureau of Standards. Fred Winter, a mechanical engineer formerly at NBS, is now with the Harry Diamond Laboratory of the US Department of the Army.
