Microstructural investigation of masonry deterioration in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada
Massive carbonation, leaching of constituents and interaction of cement components with brick salts created weakness at the brick-mortar interface in the study carried out by Shondeep L. Sarkar, which was compounded by heavy snow accumulation along the study wall, resulting in the well-known problem of a freeze/thaw cycle causing disjointing of the masonry.
