This paper deals with the very important problem of using complex actions in computer code for designing or predicting the behaviour of civil engineering structures. The authors illustrate their purpose with the example of urban hydrology and examples from others civil engineering fields. They show that the spatial and temporal distribution of physical phenomena must be modelled according to the aim of the study. This kind of problems is generic in the fields of civil engineering.
