A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Form and Fashion: A Historical View
Nearly all observers of the contemporary architectural scene are dismayed by the proliferation of fashions, substyles and mannerisms; many of them believe that a working theory of modern architecture must be constructed and applied if the process is to be halted and order restored. In a paper read at the California Council AIA meeting at Coronado last October, Mr. Pickens proposes that such a theory must be based upon a proper understanding of the architectural past—and, if it is to be useful in America, of the American architectural past.
