Some six years ago a survey of flat roofs on UK Government buildings revealed that about one-third had allowed water to penetrate at some time, due mostly to failure to comply with recommendations already published on design and installation of roof finishes. This article is extracted from BRE Digest 144 on the subject, and its continued relevance prompted its reprinting two years ago.
