Transformation of the Border transport system in the Vienna-Bratislava-Gyor region
This paper discusses the development of the growth axis between Vienna, Bratislava and Gyor in Central Europe. Despite its classical role as a trade corridor the region suffered from modern transportation developments which, for political reasons, possessed few cross-border connections to the west. With liberalization these shortcomings have become pronounced due to the considerable increase in cross-border trade since 1989. The implications of this are that for regional cross-border trade to flourish, significant infrastructural improvements are required.
