On average a major earthquake has occurred in the Philippines once every six years since the year 1600. The annual population growth is 2.3%, while there is an annual loss of about 2% of the Gross National Product due to natural disasters. One way of mitigating against the disasters is to have stronger enforcement and seek ways of accommodating change. Il a ete estime que depuis l'an 1600, les Philippines subissent on moyenne un seisme de grande amplitude tous les six ans. Le taux d'accroissement naturel de la population s'eleve a 2, 3%, alors que le PNB subit tous les ans une perte d'environ 2% en raison des catastrophes naturelles. Cette situation devrait pouvoir etre contree par une mise en vigueur plus rigoureuse des regles de construction parasismique et par une evolution des mentalites.
