Diverse patterns of world and regional piracy: implications of the recurrent characteristics
This study discusses diverse patterns of piracy across time and regions. By comparing various features of piracy, this study highlights recurrent characteristics behind the scenes of piracy incidents. This study is not to ascertain a noble discovery, but to shed light on recurrent characteristics of piracy across time and space, while exploring clues for a new approach to piracy study. The results of the comparative analysis in this study suggest that the congruent factors at various levels from global to local should be incorporated into a systemic analysis frame. Then, it requires a new comprehensive approach that embraces the complex dynamics that generate piracy. In conclusion, this study argues that comprehensive analysis should be based on the deep understanding of the regional and local contexts with regard to global and international changes.
