Developing constructive and proactive conflict management strategies in healthcare
This study analyses trends, patterns and research directions of conflict research through a content analysis of 699 research articles published between 1970 and 2006 in leading academic journals devoted to the area of health. Each article was coded for journal, year of publication, authorship, affiliations, theoretical framework, interdisciplinary perspectives, definition of conflict, type of conflict, construct of conflict, outcome of conflict, research designs, sample size and future research directions. The study seeks to assess comprehensively the development of conflict research in health literature over the past three and a half decades. By way of conclusion, the study suggests how conflict management may be a significant area of engagement for scholars and professionals in healthcare. It also offers avenues for developing constructive and proactive conflict management strategies in healthcare settings.
