Urban unemployment equilibrium in LDCs: A perspective
Alao N. (1985) Urban unemployment equilibrium in LDCs: a perspective, Reg. Studies 19, 185–192. This paper describes the main features of the urban labour market in developing countries, examines the extent to which the Harris-Todaro model sheds light on the features described and suggests modifications which can be made to this type of model. It is suggested that policies which redress the real income distribution in favour of rural areas are to be preferred to wage subsidies and that production subsidies for agriculture would have the most significant impact.
