Evaluation of model sheet pile wall adjacent to a strip footing – an experimental investigation
The behaviour of a sheet pile wall adjacent to a strip footing has been discussed in this article. All findings are based on the experimental study conducted on model sheet pile wall adjacent to a model footing. It has been observed that the distance of the model footing from excavation face is one of the most important parameters influencing the behaviour of the sheet pile wall. When the footing is placed at a distance of 200 mm from the excavation face, the ground settlements are about 18 % of the maximum excavation depth whereas it is only 2.7% when the footing is placed at a distance of 800 mm from the excavation face. Corresponding deflections of the sheet pile wall are about 30% and 19% of the maximum excavation depth. The model footing would influence the behaviour of sheet pile wall when it is placed within the Rankine wedge.
