The transport system of Slovenia—problems and perspective
Slovenia became a new independent state in Central Europe in 1991/2. This paper is intended to outline the nature of its transport system. The system consists of rail, road, port and marine, air and post and telecommunication subsystems. The paper details the physical and institutional characteristics of the system, looks at the relationships between demand and supply of transport services during the years before independence and discusses both existing and future problems confronting policy makers. A more specific intention is to describe the air transport system, to examine its past and present problems and to point out its further development.
