FLOOD ROUTING BY FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
A numerical model based on the Finite Element Method is used for solving distributed flood routing problem in channels. The simultaneous equations which result from the finite element formulation are solved by Gaussian Elimination Method using banded property of matrices. Model is first validated for a rectangular channel with a triangular input flood hydrograph. A case study is carried out by using July 1989 flood of the Godavari river. The reach selected for the study is in between Dhalegaon and Gangakhed Railway Bridge gauging stations. The downstream flood hydrograph obtained by the present methodology is compared with actual flood hydrograph.
