A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In this paper, I present my ongoing PhD study: designing a system for intergenerational storytelling for older adults living in a nursing home, adopting the method of Research-through-Design. My research started from a contextual inquiry, and an explorative prototype named Interactive Gallery was first designed and implemented in a Dutch nursing home (first iteration). Based on its findings, my specific research focus and research question were identified. In the subsequent iterations, the research prototype was firstly designed in a co-design manner (second iteration) and was then implemented to investigate the older people’s life stories (third iteration), and memento stories (fourth iteration). The fifth iteration is currently in progress, aiming at fully engaging older people’s children by closing the story sharing loop.
