A functional distance approach to regionalisation
Keane M. J. (1978) A functional distance approach to regionalisation, Reg. Studies 12, 379–386. The problem of regional delimitation can be viewed as the problem of how to aggregate subareas into regions. Components of this aggregation approach include a set of areas, representing building blocks, a set of criteria, a procedure for aggregating areas, and a method for evaluating alternative aggregations. This paper reports on how this type of methodology was used to define a system of economic planning regions in British Columbia.
