A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Joint damages are commonly seen in old jointed concrete pavement (JCP). A joint restore should be conducted before rehabilitation by placing an asphalt concrete (AC) overlay in order to prevent the reflective cracking in the AC layer. This study was performed to experimentally investigate the rehabilitation strategy of a joint damaged JCP in terms of the performance of the repair materials and the effectiveness of the structure design through beam tests. Three types of repair materials were used and the beams were tested under the three-point bending. The repair materials used were plain concrete, engineering cementitious composite (ECC) and ECC-dowel combination. The flexural behaviour, fracture energy, crack pattern, and failure mode were investigated to evaluate the effectiveness of rehabilitation for future engineering application.
