Utilization of Waste Asphalt Concrete as Cement-treated Bases for Airport Pavements
The waste materials produced during the construction or repair of airport pavements are typically of high quality and should be reused. Current specifications, however, may not apply to such usage. This paper describes a series of laboratory tests that were performed to investigate the use of waste asphalt concrete in airport pavements, especially stabilized bases. These tests show that recycled cement-treated materials can satisfy the specifications for airport pavement base courses and subbases. By following well-defined construction procedures, it is possible to use 100% recycled materials in airport pavements. This will effectively utilize huge amounts of waste asphalt concrete.
