A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A task group to consider expert systems in construction management has been set up within CIB working commission W 65. The background to this step, and the possible development of expert systems for other aspects of construction, such as building design and geotechnics, are discussed here by the Professor of Construction Management in the Civil Engineering Department of Loughborough University of Technology, UK. Terms such as 'knowledge base', 'shell' and 'domains' are defined, and several practical developments already made feasible by research are reported.
