A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Obituary: Stephen Harris (1949–2023)
Stephen Harris (23 September 1949–24 December 2023) taught at the University of New South Wales for over thirty years and is fondly remembered by several generations of students and practitioners as an exceptional, personable and influential planner known for his accessibility, pragmatism and inclusivity. His contribution to planning education was outstanding. His teaching advanced understandings of heritage and conservation, energy efficiency, urban design, community planning and the art of effective communication. The activism and advocacy planning that informed his approach in the 1980s mark a period when planning was shifting its concerns to social issues, participatory engagement and localism.
