Empirical evaluation of proposed treatment unit for saline wastewater softening
The present study practically examined a water freshener unit for treating the wastewater from petrochemical desalination units. The combination of chemical methods and physical processes are investigated in this research. Laboratory data indicated that the amount of phosphorus has been reduced by about 13.3% on average as a result of the initial screening in the filtration unit. Moreover, the laboratory data also showed that the turbidity of the wastewater could be reduced by about 38.7% on average in case of using filtration unit. Results demonstrated sulfur and oxygen required for biological treatment as well as oxygen required for chemical treatment of the waste water can be reduced respectively by 19.7%, 24.3% and 29.2% in case of using ferric chloride as the primary coagulant and lime and soda as the assisting coagulation agents when the first refining reactor was set at 70 rpm and the second refining reactor was set at 50 rpm.
