BRIDGE CONSTRICTIONS FOR DISCHARGE MEASUREMENT IN CHANNELS
This paper explores the possibility of using bridge constrictons for flow measurement in streams and rivers. It presents a new approach of relating the depths of flow at the nose and tail of the bridge pier with the discharge. Semi-empirical formulae relating these parameters for choked and unchoked flow conditions are proposed. The effects of shape of the pier nose and tail and length-width ratio of the pier on discharge are discussed.
