Most of the construction developments which receive attention nowadays concentrate on concrete as the appropriate structural medium. Yet not only has brickwork been the traditional building material in some countries for centuries, but it remains a staple constructional material still in many parts of the world. This article reviews international developments which have attempted to integrate this traditional 'component' into the production needs of the present.
