Multi-Agency Information Management for Human Services
One of the most difficult tasks facing policymakers is to sort out what is useful information and what is not. This article describes an information management system designed by a consortium of public and private human service agencies in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It outlines the steps that were involved in designing and setting up the system, demonstrating that numerous public and private agencies can cooperate sufficiently to create a comprehensive, flexible source for information that decision makers need. Although the system is still not fully operative, we believe it offers substantial advantages over other information collection and reporting systems.
