The danger of using household income as a measure of wealth
The distorted picture of relative wealth that is painted by Census income statistics is highlighted using hypothetical families from different backgrounds, situations and life-cycle stages within Melbourne's rich suburbs and poor suburbs. It is shown how alternative measures, such as mean dwelling price and occupational mix might be better indicators of wealth.
