Modification of Ground Motions for Use in Central North America
Existing procedures are used to modify available recorded ground motions to conform to realistic seismic hazard and regional soil conditions for Central North America. Site-specific bedrock ground motions were defined by spectrally-matching select recorded ground motions to conditional mean spectra (CMS) corresponding to a 1000-year return period. Soil profiles developed using existing soil data from the region are used to propagate the bedrock ground motions to the ground surface, for use in dynamic structural analysis. A suite of surface ground motions was developed for locations in southern Illinois; these ground motions are available in an online repository.
