Use of Areal Photography and Water Wells to Delineate Shallow Groundwater
Investigation of hydrogeological characteristics of any areas is a pre-requisite for water resources development, particularly in the siting of wells. Areal photographs can be manually interpreted to delineate and identify potential aquifers. The results of this study indicate that water can be found mainly in deep weathered profiles, fractures, joints, cracks, and veins of inhomogeneity of crystal-line rocks. However contrary to the popular opinion, river channels and deeper wells in some areas are less aquiferous in the study area. Diligent and painstaking interpretation of areal photographs is adequate for identification of potential aquifers. Expensive geophysical surveys can be dispensed. This proposed method takes into consideration affordability of clients and different site conditions.
