SOME IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF THE QUANTITATIVE GEOMORPHOLOGY OF WESTERN GHATS IN KARNATAKA
The quantitative aspects of the geometry of the channel network of seven basins, varying in size from 108 to 456 km2, in the wet and mountainous Sahyadri ranges of Karnataka are presented. The variation in the value of the Geomorphological parameters is delineated by analysing the channel geometry of a number of smaller catchments within each basin. In all, a total of 66 catchments are studied. Applicability of the Horton's laws is checked and the important features of the region highlighted. The factors influencing drainage density have been studied through a correlation analysis. Some peculiar characteristics of this region have been established by comparing the geomorphological parameters with those of a few others, elsewhere.
