The Emergence of Informal Governance in Neighborhood Upgrading in Dhaka, Bangladesh
This paper seeks to analyze the process of local innovation steering local planning governance in the absence or weak presence of state planning in the context of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is based on a case study in a neighborhood at the fringe of the inner city which is experiencing rapid upgrading and densification. The paper aims to examine the relationship between existing governance institutions and social innovation through the analysis of the role of actors involved in informal local planning activities as part of a road widening program initiated by a local civil society based association.
